Lafayette Centre

Rebrand an entire office complex above and below the ground to achieve a more welcoming experience and establish a comprehensive wayfinding system.

Experiential Graphic Design, ESI Design

Initially ESI Design was asked to create an experience to unify the spaces of this large office complex in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC. As we looked at possible physical and media interventions, it became clear that experiential graphic design and a bold wayfinding system were the answer.

My role was to establish a new brand identity to differentiate the buildings while at the same time unifying the 4-building complex, evaluate and map out key destinations and paths to them, develop a system for retail tenant signage that fit within that brand, and bring it all together in one cohesive system. Once the above ground system was established, I redesigned the signage for the labyrinthine 3-leveled parking garage below.

Lastly, there was a concern that the tall archways and inner courtyard passageway did not feel safe at night. Working with another designer, we developed lighting to work within the brand signage and give a warm, welcoming feeling to the public spaces throughout the day and night.
